Research carried out by Samsung Business Communication shows that 66 per cent of employers do not trust their staff to work from home, pointing to concerns about employee productivity as the main barrier to increased teleworking. Only 46 per cent of UK companies offer employees the opportunity to work from home, compared to 72 per cent in the Netherlands and 78 per cent in Sweden. The survey found that workers in the UK commute on average 7 hours a week compared to 4.7 hours in the Netherlands and 3.7 hours in Sweden. According to figures from BT it costs #16000 per year to support an office based employee compared to #2500 for a home-worker.
